Volunteer Leon

The portal for Volunteer Services, a part of the Leon County Government, that connects potential volunteers with 300+ public and private nonprofits. The portal offers volunteer opportunities that allows a browser to match themselves to a cause, skill-builder, interest, or pressing need.

The United Way of the Big Bend

The organization is comprised of Leon County and six other counties that surround us. There are several ways to get involved (from monetary to direct action). To volunteer, fill out the form on their website or contact them directly.

 

Leon County School Volunteers

For anyone who wants to volunteer or mentor in the Leon County School System. The form must be filled out annually. There are many options (art, music, STEM, field trips, and/or sports) and up to five school choices.

 

Girls On The Run Big Bend

A program for girls grade 3-8 that teaches athletics, self-esteem, and essential skills. It culminates in a 5K run. Volunteers are needed as coaches and running buddies as well as other preparation work.

 
 

The Tallahassee Marathon

This marathon is a USATF sanctioned event and both the marathon and half marathon races are run on USATF certified courses. The Tallahassee Marathon is a qualifying course for the Boston Marathon. Volunteers for the event can help with preparation, packets, safety, water, and, clean up.

 
 

Volunteer Match

A large forum of volunteer opportunities with national and international organizations. There are many different types of ways to get involved (from passive to in person).

 
 
Second Harvest of the Big Bend
 

The Second Harvest of the Big Bend

A food bank that serves eleven counties in Florida.

Volunteers can sign up and then drop on any shift where space is available. Volunteers help with sorting and packing food parcels.

 

Big Bend Cares

AIDS testing, programs, and services for Leon and surrounding counties. Volunteers are wanted for administrative, bag stuffing, Artopia, and other fundraising activities.

Gulf Winds Track Club

Volunteers can choose between helping with racing and helping with the computer system. GWTC holds over twenty different races throughout the year.

 
 
 

Florida Public Archaeology Network

FPAN needs volunteers in the office and out in the field with public outreach. Tasks would require an interest or basic knowledge of archaeology and/or history. Some of the events take place on weekends.

 
 
 

The Oasis Center for Women and Girls

Oasis supports women and girls through education, counseling and other means of help. Volunteers are wanted for outreach, administrative, other work, or products.

Tallahassee Pridefest

To celebrate Pride and the LGBT community of Tallahassee. They help create and run several events during the month long event around town. Volunteers can sign up on the website.

 

Chain of Parks Art Festival

The annual spring festival needs volunteers for a few hours shifts or all day work. The volunteer wristband allows volunteers to attend the festival for a time after their shift.

Early Learning Coalition of the Big Bend

The ELC is a private, not-for-profit, organization that provides services to families, children, and child care providers in the Big Bend (Gadsden, Jefferson, Leon, Liberty, Madison, Taylor, and Wakulla counties). They do parental education, professional development for child care professionals, education on child development, tuition assistance programs, and child care information services. Volunteers are always needed.

 

The Literacy Volunteers of Leon County

The LVLC helps with math, reading, writing, SAT/GED/ACT prep, and English language skills/ESOL. They offer free tutoring. Tutors, Admin, and Board members are needed.

 

The Kearney Center

Volunteers are needed in the kitchen as well as with administrative tasks. The Kearney Center offers meals, community support for independent living, medical services, and emergency shelter.

Parkinson’s Outreach Alliance

Volunteers are wanted, especially in social media and PR/advertising. The POA raises awareness of Parkinson’s, creates communities for those affected, supports caregivers, and raises money.

Big Bend Homeless Coalition

Volunteers are needed for meal preparation, fun events for children’s play, administrative tasks, story hour, and campus beautification.

 

The Southern Shakespeare Company

Volunteers of all ages can help with the festival. Ushers, parking lot attendants, merchandise booths attendants and other general task positions are available.
